Authorities arrested a 37-year-old suspect linked to one of three wildfires near Spokane, Washington. The Spokane County Sheriff's Office named him as Aaron F. Farinacci.

He was booked on suspicion of first-degree arson. The charge relates to the Old Trails Fire, the largest of the three blazes.

Reports say his bond was set at $1 million. The fires have destroyed hundreds of homes and other buildings.

Nearly a quarter of Spokane's residents have been forced from their homes. Authorities said 60,000 people were evacuated from the area.

Some reports say the number is closer to 67,000. The county first received nearly 300 reports of missing people.

By Monday officials had cleared all but 14 of those reports. Officials said the remaining cases likely involve people who have not contacted anyone since evacuating.

They are probably not truly missing. More than 1,000 firefighters had arrived by Monday, many from out of state.

That number was expected to double in the coming days. The arrest is a major step as firefighters keep battling the wildfires.
