Syria Arrests Suspect in 2013 Massacre
Syrian security forces arrested Amjad Youssef near Hama, Syria. He was found about 30 miles outside the city.
Youssef was a former Syrian government official. He is suspected of leading the Tadamon massacre in April 2013.
That massacre happened in a district of Damascus, Syria. About 288 civilians were killed.
The victims were blindfolded and handcuffed before being shot. Their bodies were thrown into a mass grave and burned.
A leaked video from 2022 showed Youssef ordering blindfolded men to run before shooting them. After former leader Bashar al-Assad fell from power Youssef became one of Syria's most-wanted fugitives. Syria's Interior Minister personally announced the arrest.
Klear Note — The Tadamon massacre was one of Syria's worst atrocities during its civil war. Bashar al-Assad's government fell from power in late 2025, allowing new authorities to pursue suspects.
