Syria Court Issues First Verdicts Over Alawite Massacres
Syria's judiciary issued its first verdicts on Thursday. The case involved 2025 massacres of Alawites on the Syrian coast.
The verdicts came from a military court in Aleppo, Syria. The case involved 14 defendants.
The court issued four initial rulings. A former member of Syria's government forces got 20 years in prison.
A supporter of former president Bashar al-Assad received a death sentence. Another person received a life sentence.
These are the first legal consequences for the coastal killings. The trial began in November 2025.
The case followed attacks on security forces in March 2025. Armed men linked to the former Assad government carried out those attacks.
The defendants included seven members of government forces. They also included seven supporters of Assad.
