Tank Burst at Washington Paper Mill Kills Two

A tank burst on Tuesday at a paper mill in Longview, Washington state. The mill is called Nippon Dynawave Packaging Co.

The tank held white liquor which is a chemical used in making paper. Two people have died and nine others are missing.

One person died after being taken to hospital. The Longview fire department says there is no hope for those still missing.

The rescue effort has become a recovery operation. Liquid from the tank spilled into the Columbia River.

The Washington National Guard sent 46 members to help with recovery and air checks. Governor Bob Ferguson said Washington was preparing for the state's deadliest industrial tragedy.
