Tesla and SpaceX Form Committees to Explore Merger
Tesla and SpaceX have formed special committees to explore a possible merger. Axios reported this on October 20 2026.
Elon Musk said the committees would consider a possible deal. Musk first raised the idea Wednesday afternoon during Tesla's 2025 third-quarter call.
Tesla beat earnings forecasts and sales estimates in the third quarter. Musk said a possible merger has "a lot of merit." He declined to explain further.
A merger would need approval from 50% of all Tesla shareholders. Tesla later announced there would be no questions about the proposed merger. Investors got no further information during the earnings call.
Klear Note — A merger combines two companies into one business.
