Thai Court Sentences Two Men to Death for 2015 Bombing
A court in Thailand sentenced two Uyghur men to death. They were found guilty of a bombing at the Erawan Shrine in Bangkok in 2015.
The attack killed 20 people and injured 120 others. Five of those killed were from mainland China.
The Erawan Shrine is a popular tourist site in central Bangkok. The two men are Bilal Mohammed and Yusufu Mieraili.
They said they will appeal the death sentence. The case took over 10 years to reach trial.
Thai authorities linked the bombing to a people-smuggling gang. Some experts think Uyghur separatists carried out the attack. They may have been angry at Thailand sending Uyghurs back to China in July 2015.
Klear Note — The 2015 Erawan Shrine bombing was Thailand's deadliest attack. It killed 20 people and injured 120 at a major Bangkok tourist site.
