Three Hikers Die in Indonesia Volcano Eruption

Three hikers died when Mount Dukono volcano erupted in Indonesia. Two were from Singapore and one was Indonesian.

The eruption happened on Halmahera island. The hikers were in a restricted zone when the volcano erupted.

The area had been closed due to volcanic activity. Leaders had warned people not to climb the volcano.

The eruption sent an ash cloud about 6 miles into the air. About 20 hikers were on the slopes when it erupted.

Most got down safely within hours. But several hikers are still missing.

Ongoing eruptions have made it unsafe to recover the bodies. The guide and a porter were taken to a police station.

They could face criminal charges for entering the restricted zone. No nearby towns or villages faced any immediate threat.
