Tourists were flocking to northern Spain for Wednesday's total solar eclipse. Spain was also battling a heatwave and wildfires.

The extra tourists could add risk of more fires. So leaders sent police and safety measures.

Spain's traffic agency expected up to 1.5 million extra trips. These trips were to eclipse viewing spots.

Wildfire danger was reported as extremely high. The Moon will completely block the Sun in parts of northern Spain.

This will briefly turn day into night. Millions more will see a partial eclipse elsewhere. This includes Europe, Canada, the northern United States and northwest Africa.
