President Trump accused China of interfering in the 2020 election. He made the claim in a televised address on Thursday.

The speech lasted 25 minutes. Trump released documents he said showed foreign interference.

Reports say the address focused on claims China accessed 220 million US voter files. The claims were tied to Trump's push for the stalled SAVE America Act.

That act would require proof of citizenship to vote. Several major networks including ABC NBC and CNN declined to air the speech live.

China called Trump's claims fabricated. US Democrats criticized the speech.

Virginia Senator Mark Warner called it "just lies and long-debunked conspiracies." He warned Trump was trying to undermine November's midterm elections. Senator Chris Coons said the only person known to have tried to meddle in the 2020 election was Trump himself according to a CNN report.

Coons pointed to Trump's past call to Georgia's Secretary of State. Intelligence officials have said there is no evidence foreign actors changed the outcome of any US election. Trump traveled to China to meet Xi Jinping in May before making these accusations.
