Trump Administration Starts Border Wall Project in Texas
The Trump administration started building a border wall in Texas. Construction began this week in Hudspeth County.
That area is just east of El Paso, Texas. The project is called Big Bend 1.
Workers are installing 30-foot steel panels along 47 miles. This project is separate from one in Big Bend National Park.
Local leaders and landowners criticized plans for a park wall. Construction there paused after the backlash.
The park project includes roads, vehicle barriers and detection technology. Landowners, environmental groups and Native American groups continue to oppose it.
Lawsuits are ongoing. The Big Bend work is part of a $46 billion border plan.
That plan covers walls, barriers, roads and technology. Officials called the start a milestone in that plan. They said it helps fulfill Trump's promise to finish the wall.
