Trump Announces 50% Tariffs on Canadian Vehicles and Steel
President Trump said the United States will raise tariffs on Canada. The tariffs cover cars, trucks, auto parts and steel.
The tariffs will rise to 50%. They are set to start on January 1 2027.
This follows the breakdown of trade talks last week. The talks were between the United States and Canada.
Trump wrote about the tariffs on Truth Social. He said Canada has been ripping off the United States of America for years.
He linked the tariffs to Canadian taxes on US farmers. Reports say vehicles built in the United States would face no tariffs. Canadian leaders said the US demands would hurt Canada's auto industry.
