Trump Announces East Potomac Golf Course Redevelopment Plan

Donald Trump announced a plan to redevelop East Potomac Golf Links. It is a century-old course in Washington.

The plan calls for Tom Fazio to redesign the course. The redesigned course would be a championship venue.

It would be able to host the US Open. Trump said the course would remain public and host major tournaments.

But it is unclear how much it will cost. Critics fear local users could no longer afford it.

The course would close on November 15 for about 15 months. Trump plans to begin changing the historic course despite a court order.

The temporary order bars more tree-cutting through October 26. The order does not rule against the broader redevelopment.

The lawsuit was brought by the D.C. Preservation League and two golfers. The judge restricted further cutting after hundreds of trees were removed.

The government said the broader plan was still just an idea. But the judge questioned that claim.
