Trump Announces Ukraine Energy Ceasefire; Zelenskyy Says Russian Strikes Continue
President Donald Trump announced an energy ceasefire in Ukraine. He said Ukraine and Russia had agreed to it.
Ukrainian President Zelenskyy said Kyiv was not consulted and terms were unclear. Euronews reported neither side had publicly confirmed an agreement.
Zelenskyy said Russia kept striking Ukraine's energy facilities after the announcement. Trump posted the announcement on Truth Social as Russian drones hit Kyiv.
Zelenskyy said he was surprised by the announcement. He said it was “increasingly clear” Russia did not want a truce.
He also said Putin “does not read Truth Social.” That was about Trump's post. Zelenskyy spoke on Monday to European security officials in Warsaw, Poland.
He vowed Kyiv would retaliate if Russia kept striking its power grid. He said Ukraine was willing to halt attacks on Russian energy sites.
This would happen only if Russia stopped striking Ukraine's energy system. Zelenskyy had asked Trump to press Moscow to accept the halt. The Associated Press reported this request came before Trump's announcement.
