Trump Calls Chagos Islands Deal a Big Mistake
Trump changed his mind about a UK military deal. He said he supported the Chagos Islands agreement.
But one day later he called it a big mistake. The US had officially backed the deal.
London said the deal was the only way to keep a joint military base. Diego Garcia is a British territory in the Indian Ocean.
Trump warned the base may be needed. It could help respond to a possible attack from Iran. Under the deal Britain would lease Diego Garcia for 99 years.
