Trump Cancels Envoy Trip for Iran Talks
President Trump has cancelled a planned trip by two US envoys to Pakistan. The envoys were Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner.
They had been expected to arrive in Islamabad on Saturday for ceasefire talks with Iran. Trump said too much time has been wasted on traveling.
He also pointed to what he called infighting and confusion within Iran's leadership. Iran's foreign minister Abbas Araghchi had already arrived in Pakistan before the cancellation.
He met with Pakistan's army chief and other senior leaders in Islamabad. Araghchi said his visit focused on bilateral matters and regional developments.
He then left for Muscat in Oman for further talks. Iran had said there were no plans for a direct meeting with the US envoys anyway.
Klear Note — The US and Iran have had tense relations for decades. Pakistan is a key regional player in Middle East diplomacy.
