Trump Cancels Livestream of Hasan Execution After Backlash

Donald Trump canceled plans to livestream the execution of Nidal Malik Hasan. Hasan was convicted for a 2009 shooting at Fort Hood in Texas.

It killed 13 people and injured more than 32 others. Pete Hegseth had announced plans to livestream a military execution last week.

The plan faced criticism from both parties. Some worried the footage could fuel radicalization.

Vice President JD Vance said he would not watch. House Speaker Mike Johnson warned the footage could become a recruiting tool.

Trump said many people would rather not watch Hasan die. But Hasan will still be executed by firing squad at Fort Hood.

The execution is scheduled for December 3. An appeal could affect the timing.

The execution would be the first military execution in over 60 years. Victims' families can watch in person if they wish.

Some religious figures who long backed Hegseth's career supported his livestream plan. A CREC church leader said he prefers public to private executions.

Klear Note — Pastors in the CREC church have advocated the death penalty.
