Trump Criticizes Ally Pirro Over Reflecting Pool Case

President Trump criticized Jeanine Pirro over a vandalism case. Pirro is a longtime ally of Trump.

She agreed to drop a case against a former Olympic canoeist. The canoeist was accused of damaging the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool in Washington DC.

Pirro serves as the top federal prosecutor for the city. Trump wrote online that he disagreed with her decision.

He called the damage a clear case of vandalism. He pointed to graffiti found on nearby grass.

Interior Secretary Doug Burgum also backed the vandalism claim. But the Justice Department's own filing blamed the damage on a rushed renovation.

That renovation cost $14 million. Contractor Atlantic Industrial Coatings carried out the work.

The pool is now empty and closed to the public. Trump said the pool had a flawed installation.

He vowed to restore it. The renovation was part of larger efforts ahead of America's 250th birthday celebrations.
