Trump Gives 90-Day Tariff Break on Beef Imports

President Trump announced a 90-day tariff break on Friday. It covers up to 300,000 metric tons of imported ground beef.

The move aims to lower record-high beef prices. Beef prices rose in 2026 as the US cattle herd shrank.

Price increases slowed in July but stayed at record levels. The relief removes the higher tariff on that specific amount.

Not all tariffs on beef would be eliminated. Trump said the imported beef would sell 25% below market prices.

He did not name the companies or countries involved. Implementation details remain unclear.

The policy aims to ease costs before November's midterm elections. Trump had considered removing beef tariffs in May.

But Congress and ranch groups pushed back then. He later announced the 90-day measure instead.
