Trump May Pause Federal Gas Tax as Prices Soar
Gas prices in the US are now above $4.50 per gallon. The Trump administration is thinking about pausing the federal gas tax to lower prices.
Energy Secretary Chris Wright spoke to NBC News on Sunday. He said the administration is open to all ideas to cut gas costs.
This includes pausing the federal gas tax. The tax is just over 18 cents per gallon.
Klear Note — The federal gas tax funds road and bridge repairs across the US. Pausing it would lower pump prices but reduce money for infrastructure maintenance.
