Trump Orders 15% Tariff on Polysilicon Products
President Trump ordered a new 15% tariff on imported polysilicon products. Polysilicon is a key material used to make microchips.
China makes most of the world's polysilicon. The tariff will start on December 4th.
It expands Trump's existing tariffs on Chinese goods. The goal is to support US chip and solar-panel makers.
These industries compete with China on artificial intelligence and energy. Trump's order also set minimum prices for polysilicon, ingots, wafers, solar cells and modules.
It also blocks companies from stockpiling materials before December 4th. Solar company stocks rose in early trading after the announcement.
