Trump Orders Navy to Shoot Mine-Laying Boats

President Trump ordered the US Navy to shoot any boats laying mines. The order targets small boats in the Strait of Hormuz.

Trump made the announcement Thursday on Truth Social. He also claimed the US has total control of the waterway.

Trump said US minesweepers must keep clearing the strait at triple speed. The Pentagon told lawmakers this week that clearing the mines could take six months.

The Strait of Hormuz carries about one fifth of the world's oil. Iran said it is impossible to reopen the strait amid ceasefire breaches.

Iranian leaders also said there can be no peace talks while the US blockade of Iranian ports continues. Reports say the order could put a fragile ceasefire between the two sides at risk.

Klear Note The Strait of Hormuz is a narrow waterway between Iran and Oman. About one-fifth of world's oil passes through it daily. Mines are underwater bombs that explode when ships touch them.
