Trump Rejects Russia Sanctions and Says Somebody Else Should Negotiate

Trump recently rejected new sanctions on Russia. The Associated Press reported this on October 20 2026.

He also repeated that “somebody else” should negotiate for Ukraine. The report also said problems hit satellite support for Ukraine.

Those problems added to strain in US-Ukraine ties. This is separate from a 2025 dispute with Ukrainian President Zelenskyy.

During that dispute Trump excused Russia from sanctions. He also criticized Zelenskyy.

The Guardian reported Trump made the same “somebody else” remark then. PBS NewsHour said the exemption widened Trump's rift with Zelenskyy.
