Trump Tells Congress Iran War Is Over

President Trump sent a letter to Congress on Friday. He said hostilities with Iran have ended.

The United States started a war with Iran in late February 2026. Trump told Congress about it on March 2.

That started a 60-day deadline under federal law. Congress must approve the war within that time.

But Trump now says the war is over. So he argues the deadline no longer applies.

Trump pointed to a ceasefire ordered on April 7. That ceasefire has since been extended.

Still about 50,000 United States troops remain in the region. Iran sent a new peace proposal through Pakistani go-betweens.

Trump said he is not satisfied with that proposal. He also said Iran's leaders are deeply divided. Trump says that has made it harder to end the war.

Klear Note The War Powers Act requires Congress approval for military action within 60 days. Trump claims the war ended before that deadline, so Congress vote may not be needed.
