Trump Says Israel PM Netanyahu Won't Be Arrested in US
President Trump said Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will not be arrested in the United States. Trump made the promise in a social media post on Monday.
He credited Israel for helping the US fight Iran. Trump's statement responded to New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani.
Mamdani had been checking if he could arrest Netanyahu during a visit to New York. Netanyahu usually visits New York each September for the United Nations General Assembly.
He has not visited yet. Netanyahu faces an arrest warrant from the International Criminal Court.
The warrant relates to the war in Gaza. Mamdani said in an interview published Saturday that Netanyahu belongs in The Hague.
During his campaign Mamdani had warned he would order police to arrest Netanyahu if he entered the city. Israel dismissed Mamdani's remarks.
Israeli officials called the International Criminal Court a fake court. They said its warrant was not valid. They accused Mamdani of distracting from his own problems.
