Trump Team Asks Supreme Court to Lift Mail-In Voting Block

The Trump administration's Justice Department asked the Supreme Court on Thursday. It wants to lift a block by Judge Indira Talwani.

Her order had stopped the Postal Service from limiting mail-in voting. If approved the block would end.

The Postal Service could then move forward with its plan. This follows a Supreme Court ruling in late August.

That ruling said an earlier block came too soon. This was because the Postal Service had not yet issued its rules.

Since then the Postal Service has issued a final rule. Voting-rights groups say the new rules lack approval from Congress.

They warn the changes could confuse voters and stop some from voting. The case involves proposed changes to mail-in voting procedures.

Klear Note — Mail-in voting lets people cast ballots by mail, not at polling places.
