Trump Threatens Iran Strikes Over Strait of Hormuz

Trump made a new threat against Iran. He said the United States would target a bridge or power plant.

This could happen in or near Tehran, Iran's capital. The threat applies if Iran fires on the Strait of Hormuz.

This is a key waterway for oil ships. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said Iran was not serious about talks.

Rubio said the US would keep attacking Iran if it targeted ships in the strait. He spoke at an ASEAN summit in Manila, Philippines.

Rubio warned that Iran controlling the strait sets a dangerous example. He said other countries could copy this move.

The warning comes as conflict grows in the region. Reports say US forces have struck Iranian targets for 11 nights in a row.

Iran reportedly fired a missile at a city in Jordan. Alerts were also issued in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia.

Iran has threatened to strike US-linked sites across the region. Brent crude oil prices rose above $95 per barrel.

This is the highest price in almost six weeks. The price jump shows market worry about a bigger conflict.

Klear Note The Strait of Hormuz is a narrow waterway between Iran and Oman. About one-third of world's oil passes through it. Higher oil prices show markets fear wider conflict in the region.
