Trump made the threat to Fox News reporter Trey Yingst. Talks aim to reopen shipping through the Strait of Hormuz.

The US and Oman have separately worked to reopen the strait too. Iran and Oman have also held talks.

They want a secure shipping route. Shipping traffic in the strait recently hit a new low.

The US-Iran ceasefire is set to expire Monday. So far there is no deal.

Reports say Iran and Oman nearly reached a deal 10 days earlier. The deal would help manage shipping in the strait.

The strait had been nearly closed for six months. Both Iran and the US had pressured shipping there.

The Strait of Hormuz is a major oil route. It usually carries about a quarter of the world's seaborne oil trade.
