Trump Visits China for First Trip Since 2017

US President Trump is visiting China this week. It is the first visit by a US president since 2017.

The White House called the trip of "tremendous symbolic significance." Trump invited 16 top US business leaders to join the visit. They include Elon Musk of Tesla, Tim Cook of Apple and Larry Fink of investment company BlackRock.

They plan to discuss business deals. Chinese and US leaders are talking about buying American crops including corn.

A deal could be reached during the visit. The Iran war is likely to be the top topic at the Trump-Xi meeting.

Beijing says Taiwan should also be central to talks. There is currently a fragile ceasefire between the US and Iran.

China says it is ready to work with the US for "more stability" globally. Trump says he has a great relationship with President Xi.

The visit will give a sense of where US-China relations stand. A return visit by Xi to Washington is expected later in 2026.
