Ninety lawmakers left the CHP to join Ozel's new party. This move made his new party parliament's second-largest group.

A Turkish court removed Ozel as CHP leader in May. The same court canceled the party's 2023 leadership election.

This ruling brought back former leader Kemal Kilicdaroglu as head of the party. Critics say the court's decision was a political move by President Erdogan.

Ozel says his new party is reportedly called Yeni Parti or New Party. He wants it to become the top opposition group.

He said he wants to lead this group by a wide margin. Turkey's parliament has 600 seats total. The CHP held 135 of those seats before lawmakers left.
