Two Iranian Men Charged Over Alleged Manchester Plot

British police charged two Iranian men on Friday. They are Salam Ahmadyan and Rahman Salehi.

The alleged plot targeted Manchester's Jewish community and other Jewish targets. They were charged under Section 5 of the Terrorism Act 2006.

Police said another man was in contact with the pair. He was most likely in Iran.

The plot aimed to get a bomb to attack Jewish targets. Counter Terrorism Policing said the men may have been directed from Tehran.

The pair were arrested in Manchester's Northern Quarter. This was on the eve of Yom Kippur. The Financial Times described the two men as small-boat migrants.

Klear Note — Yom Kippur is Judaism’s holiest day, observed with prayer and fasting. A charge is an accusation; guilt must still be proven in court.
