Two Migrants Die After Boat Runs Aground in France

A small boat carrying about 82 migrants ran aground on a beach in northern France on Sunday. Two people died and 16 others were hurt.

The two who died were young women aged around 20. They are believed to be from Sudan.

They most likely died from suffocation or crushing. The boat set out overnight to cross the English Channel.

Its engine failed and it drifted before hitting the beach. This happened about 12km south of Boulogne-sur-Mer in France. The number of migrants reaching Britain from France has dropped significantly in 2026 compared with 2025.

Klear Note The English Channel separates France and Britain. Migrants often attempt dangerous boat crossings to reach Britain. Many boats are overcrowded and lack safety equipment.
