Two Workers Rescued After Nine Days Trapped in Nepal Tunnel

Rescuers pulled two workers alive from a tunnel in Nepal. They had been trapped for nine days in the Trishuli 3A tunnel.

Flash floods buried the hydropower project in deep mud. The workers were trapped at a depth of 170 meters.

Both had injuries to their hands and legs. They were airlifted to a hospital in Kathmandu, Nepal.

Army spokesperson Brig Gen Raja Ram Basnet described the rescue. One rescued man said more people remained trapped inside.

About 115 people were believed trapped in the tunnel's main section. At least 557 project workers were reported missing.

Reports say the rescue operation is continuing. Indian and Chinese specialists and an Australian engineer are helping.

Mud, debris and damaged equipment have made access difficult. The disaster happened on August 26 2026 after a likely glacier collapse.

The same flooding near the Nepal-Tibet border killed over 1200 people. France 24 reported this death toll.
