Uganda Confirms Five Ebola Cases Total
Uganda now has five Ebola cases in total. Three new cases were just confirmed.
They include a health worker and a driver linked to Uganda's first known infection. The outbreak is caused by the Bundibugyo strain of Ebola.
No approved vaccines exist for this strain. This raises concerns about stopping the spread.
The World Health Organization raised its risk level for the Democratic Republic of Congo. WHO rated the risk as very high inside Congo and high across the region.
The global risk was rated low. The Ebola outbreak has killed 177 people in Congo. One American who got Ebola is being treated in Germany.
Klear Note — Ebola is a rare, deadly virus spread through contact with infected blood or body fluids. The Bundibugyo strain is one of five known Ebola types. Uganda borders Congo, where a larger outbreak is happening.
