A school bus crashed in Uganda late Thursday. It was returning to Kampala from a trip to Sipi Falls.

The crash killed between 20 and 21 children. At least one adult also died.

The crash happened in the Kapchorwa District near Chekwatit village. That area is close to the Uganda-Kenya border.

The driver lost control of the bus. It veered off the road and hit a boulder.

The bus belonged to King David Junior School in Kampala. The adult killed is believed to be the school's founder and head.

More than 28 children are still in the hospital. Nine of them are in critical condition.

Uganda's government has temporarily stopped all school trips. This decision came in response to the crash.

Thousands of people die on Uganda's roads every year. This crash is one of the deadliest involving children.
