UK and EU Begin Talks on £78 Billion Ukraine Loan
The UK and EU are starting formal talks on a Ukraine loan. The loan is worth £78 billion.
Prime Minister Starmer will meet European leaders in Yerevan, Armenia on Monday. That summit is where the UK and EU will hold their loan talks.
The loan equals €90 billion and was approved by EU leaders in April 2026. About two-thirds of the money is for defence and military spending.
The rest supports Ukraine's budget. The loan is designed to cover most of Ukraine's financial needs for 2026 and 2027.
The UK and EU are also seeking closer defence ties. This comes after pressure from Trump and fears the US may pull troops from Europe.
Klear Note — Ukraine needs money to rebuild after Russia's invasion and pay for defence. The UK and EU are working together to help Ukraine stay financially stable.
