UK Bans Two US Commentators Over Antisemitism Concerns

The UK has banned two US political commentators from entering the country. Cenk Uygur hosts the Young Turks online political talk show.

Hasan Piker is his nephew and runs his own daily stream. The ban stopped them from speaking at SXSW London.

Uygur was also due to speak at Oxford University. The UK Home Office said their presence "may not be conducive to the public good." The Home Office did not give specific reasons publicly.

But reports say the ban was linked to antisemitism concerns. Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood was behind the decision.

The UK recently banned rapper Kanye West for similar reasons. Free speech supporters criticized the ban. They said it was a failure to protect freedom of speech.

Klear Note The UK can ban foreign visitors if officials decide their presence harms public safety or welfare. This power is used rarely and often draws free speech debates.
