UK Conservatives Plan £10bn Britannia Shield Air Defence
The UK Conservatives will announce a £10bn air-defence plan on Tuesday. They will share it at their party conference.
The system is called Britannia Shield. The party says it would protect the UK from drone attacks.
It would use radar, command systems and missiles that stop incoming attacks. They compare it to Israel's air and missile defence system.
The pledge applies only if the party wins the next election. It is not an approved government plan.
Shadow defence secretary James Cartlidge will speak at the event. He will say Britain must be ready for possible aerial attacks.
He will also say new investment in advanced radar is needed. The BBC notes that NATO allies have warned about Russian drone incursions.
Klear Note — This is a Conservative Party proposal, not an approved government plan.
