UK Limits Refugee Protection to 30 Months
From Monday, asylum seekers in the United Kingdom get temporary protection only. Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood announced this change.
Refugees must leave if their home countries become safe. Every refugee will be told their status is temporary.
It will last just 30 months. A refugee charity expressed concern about the new asylum rules.
Klear Note — Refugee protection usually lasts indefinitely once granted. This 30-month limit is a major change to UK asylum policy. Refugees must leave if their home country becomes safe.
