UK Man Arrested Then Freed in Widdecombe Death Probe
A 26-year-old man was arrested in connection with the killing of former politician Ann Widdecombe. Widdecombe was 78 years old.
She was found dead at her home in Haytor, Dartmoor, England on Thursday. She had suffered serious injuries.
The man was later released from custody. He is no longer part of the investigation.
Devon and Cornwall Police confirmed his release on Saturday. He had been arrested on Friday.
Assistant Chief Constable Matt Longman said detectives are checking all available evidence. He also asked for the family's privacy to be respected.
Police said the death is not being treated as terrorism. They said there is no sign it was politically motivated.
Widdecombe was a former Conservative prisons minister. She later became a Brexit Party politician and a Reform UK spokeswoman.
Police are continuing to investigate her death. They have asked anyone with information to come forward.
