UK Names Former Marks and Spencer Boss as Jobs Adviser
The UK government has named Marc Bolland as a jobs adviser. His job is to tackle youth unemployment.
Bolland was chief executive of Marks and Spencer from 2010 to 2016. He will bring business leaders together to deliver a 'youth guarantee' for people aged 18 to 21.
He will also advise Work and Pensions Secretary Pat McFadden. His role includes helping disabled or depressed young people find training or jobs.
A government review warned of a 'lost generation' without urgent action on youth unemployment. The review found over one million young people are not in education, employment or training.
After the review the government acted. Some of Britain's biggest businesses will back 300,000 work experience and training places for young people over the next three years.
