UK PM Burnham Plans Council Powers on Vape and Betting Shops

UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham announced plans for new powers. Councils would get more control over vape and betting shops.

This applies to high streets and town centers. Councils could reject new betting shops and adult gaming centers.

Vape shops in England and Wales would need planning permission. The betting shop rule would also apply in Scotland.

The plans address concerns about organized crime on high streets. This includes illegal cigarette and vape sales.

It also includes drugs, illegal working and suspected money laundering. Burnham said town centers had been weakened by years of decline.

He said the plans could help bring them back to life. Downing Street said the powers could start next year.
