UK PM Calls for Protest Bans After Stabbings
Two Jewish men were stabbed in Golders Green in London. Police linked the attack to terrorism.
UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer said he was worried about the effect of pro-Palestinian marches on Jewish people. He said chants like 'globalise the intifada' should lead to charges.
He also said some marches could be stopped. The UK raised its security alert to 'severe' — the second highest level.
The government announced an extra £25 million for security at Jewish buildings. This includes synagogues, schools and community centres.
The UK's top police officer said the threat to Jewish people was greater than ever. But protest leaders and the Green Party leader pushed back against Starmer's remarks. Some accused him of using the attack to limit peaceful protest rights.
