UK Royal Navy Member Charged With Two National Security Act Offences

A serving Royal Navy member, identified by The Guardian as Teddy Young, 24, from Bedfordshire, was charged with two offences under the UK National Security Act in connection with alleged spying for an unidentified foreign power. The Guardian reported that the allegations include obtaining protected information that could benefit the foreign power.

Police said the charges allege that Young prepared to disclose protected information and obtained or retained it intending to benefit a foreign power; the allegations have not been proven. The Crown Prosecution Service authorized the charges on 7 October 2026.

Police said the alleged conduct took place between 26 November 2024 and 21 May 2025. Young was arrested by counter-terror police at his home in Bedfordshire, the BBC reported, and The Guardian said the charges followed his arrest.

Police said the charges are not connected to the RAF Fairford investigation and that the Ministry of Defence worked with investigators to help mitigate potential risks. Young was due to appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court in London. The Guardian said the appearance was scheduled for today, while the BBC and CBC said it was scheduled for Thursday.
