UK Water Firm Urges Essential Use After Demand Surge
South East Water asked customers to use water only for essential purposes. Demand surged on Monday to 100 million litres above average.
Hundreds of homes in Kent and Sussex lost water over three days. This happened during record temperatures. The company said customers should only use water for drinking, washing and cooking.
Klear Note — Water demand rises sharply during hot weather as people use more for cooling and gardens. UK water firms sometimes struggle to meet peak demand in summer.
