Ukraine Launches Biggest Ever Drone Attack on Moscow
Ukraine launched its biggest ever drone attack on Moscow on Thursday. Almost 200 drones were used in the attack.
The strike set a major oil refinery on fire. A shopping centre also caught fire.
Russia's largest airport was evacuated. Moscow's airports shut down for several hours.
At least 17 people were injured including two children. The Gazprom Neft oil refinery in the Kapotnya district was hit.
It sits just 15 kilometres from the Kremlin. It was the refinery's second strike that week.
Russia said nearly 1,000 Ukrainian drones were intercepted across the country in total. President Zelenskyy said the attack was a response to Russia striking a historic monastery in Kyiv. The monastery is listed by UNESCO as a protected world heritage site.
Klear Note — Ukraine and Russia have been at war since 2022. Drone attacks are now common weapons used by both sides. UNESCO heritage sites are buildings the world considers important to protect.
