Ukraine Strikes Crimea and Halts Civilian Fuel Sales
Ukraine attacked fuel supply routes and oil sites in Crimea. Crimea is a peninsula held by Russia since 2014.
The strikes killed 4 people and wounded 28 others. Russia's appointed head of Crimea confirmed the deaths.
He then stopped all civilian fuel sales. Only government agencies can now buy fuel.
President Zelensky called the strikes part of Ukraine's pressure on Russian energy. He named a Crimean oil depot as one target.
A fuel transport site in Russia's Krasnodar region was also hit. Fuel had already been rationed in Crimea before these strikes.
Earlier Ukrainian attacks had caused shortages there. This latest attack made those shortages worse. It is now the worst energy shortage in Crimea since Russia took the peninsula.
Klear Note — Crimea is a peninsula Russia took from Ukraine in 2014. Ukraine and Russia have been at war since 2022. Energy shortages are a key part of Ukraine's strategy against Russia.
