He posted the appeal on YouTube. The appeal addressed the suspension of elections under martial law.

Fedorov argued that suspending democracy conflicts with Ukraine's war goals. His call challenges President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

Zelenskyy says elections cannot happen under martial law. No major Ukrainian political or military figure has supported Fedorov's call.

Ukraine's opposition has generally avoided calling for wartime elections. They prefer stability during the conflict.

Fedorov was dismissed as defense minister last month. This happened during a wider political crisis.

Tensions with Ukraine's military leadership also played a role. Ukraine has had martial law since February 2022.

That began when Russian forces crossed the border. Elections have been suspended under martial law since then.
