UK's Jenrick Criticizes Delay in Farage Security Meeting
Robert Jenrick is Reform UK's Treasury spokesperson. He criticized the UK government for delaying a security meeting for party leader Nigel Farage.
He made the comments to the BBC and GB News. Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood offered the meeting directly reports say.
It was arranged after Ann Widdecombe's death. Police are investigating her death as murder according to reports.
Counter-terrorism police are involved. A 28-year-old suspect was arrested on suspicion of murder and terrorism offences.
The investigation has sparked new debate over politicians' security. Jenrick says the government should have offered Farage protection sooner.
Reports say Farage turned down the security package. This reportedly followed a wider cut to his protection arrangements.
He instead agreed to meet the chair of Ravec. Ravec is the Home Office body that oversees VIP security.
That meeting will reportedly discuss protection for all Reform politicians. This includes those who are not Members of Parliament.
Jenrick also said Farage's security was downgraded soon after his election. He called the downgrade astonishing saying no good reason was given.
