United States Jobless Claims Fall to About 194,000
Last week saw about 194,000 new jobless claims in the United States. That was down from 200,000 the week before.
The total was near its lowest level since the 1960s. United Press International and CNBC reported this.
ABC News said it was the lowest since July. The Associated Press said hiring remains slow.
Low claims do not mean hiring is strong. Unemployment was 4.2% last month.
Klear Note — Weekly jobless claims count new applications for unemployment benefits after job losses. They track layoffs, but do not show how quickly employers are hiring.
