US and Iran Near 60-Day Ceasefire Deal
The US and Iran have had a ceasefire since April 8. But skirmishes have broken out as both sides contest the Strait of Hormuz.
Now the two countries are moving closer to a 60-day ceasefire extension. The proposed deal includes a nuclear framework and eased sanctions.
It also includes the gradual reopening of the Strait of Hormuz. Trump has asked Iran to give up its enriched uranium.
He also wants Iran to shut down its nuclear sites. Iran's top negotiator has said he does not trust the US.
Iran's foreign ministry said the two sides are both very far and very close to a deal. Pakistani and Qatari negotiators met with Iranian officials on Thursday and Friday.
They stayed in contact with US envoy Steve Witkoff throughout. Trump could decide on the deal as early as Sunday, reports say.
